BSC Diecasting & Finishing are a long established, well respected and highly innovative supplier of castings in the Midlands, UK. For over 45 years they have been refining their processes to deliver the best castings with the best finish to industry both in the UK and around the world. Their 24,000 ft2 facility features the latest diecasting equipment with which they cast and finish hundreds of thousands of items for a wide variety of customers every year.

Challenge: Surface Customer Needs and Pain Points

In order to streamline their operations and improve their customer service levels, BSC went on the search for a new IT system that would provide the following:


  • Totally integrated solution to cover all operations including the planning and execution of their manufacturing operations.
  • A configuration mechanism to allow the quoting of customers for new products and re-quoting for existing products. Accounting for cost changes and modifying the markup.
  • “Quote to production in a click of a button”: Generating part numbers, BOMS and routings quickly through the configurator.
  • Stock management, traceability, managing sub-contractors, labels printing and sales administration.

Solution: System openness, interoperability and flexibility

Medatech UK provided the Priority ERP solution to cover all areas of BSC Diecasting & Finishing’s business, integrating all their operations within one seamless database. Medatech provided a single point of contact for supply of software, training, development and implementation consultancy. The solution consisted of the full standard manufacturing suite of Priority along with customisations to exactly fit BSC’s business processes. Such customisations fit seamlessly into the standard product and are fully upgradeable through all new versions into the future without the need for BSC to invest further.

BSC managing director Les Dudley says the technology has been brought in to manage a significant.

“This system is a huge step forward for BSC and something I never thought we’d be able to take advantage of a few years ago,” comments Dudley. “ERP is often seen as a low priority, but in this day and age, you need to be efficient, transparent and accountable at every stage of the project. Single database for the business’ data

BSC has been able to upgrade from their previous system and many disparate spreadsheets located on individual managers’ P.C.’s to a state-of-the-art Microsoft technology-based integrated business system. This has allowed much better control, distribution and visibility of information throughout the whole business.

Quick and Accurate Quotes

BSC has been able to quickly raise quotes to new and old customers alike based on better, more accurate data. Competitive quotes to their customers are based on realisable data of their materials costs, overheads and manufacturing costs.

Improved Service provision

By relieving their engineers of the burden of raising quotes and passing it on to their sales team, BSC managed to cut down significantly their lead times.

Greater efficiencies in production

Due to a better knowledge and visibility of the engineering data, converting a quote to a live product is one click of a button. Saving time and improving the accuracy of their BOMs and routings.

Better inventory control

With better management of their inventory and their sub-contractors, BSC now manages to achieve greater traceability of their current stock and are able to plan ahead both purchasing and production.
